AHhhhhh, Buffalo '73, my first show, 40 years ago today (gulp!).

Back in the pre-IA days, and almost pre-Internet days, there was nothing circulating that I was aware of, of this show. Basically didn't think I'd ever get to hear a recording of it. Then late one night in 1994 I was listening to the Grateful Dead Hour on the radio. There was no intro to the music this night, the program simply started with a live performance of 'He's Gone.' He had mentioned the previous week that this episode was gonna be from March '73 but it didn't cross my mind to think it really could be Buffalo. Then after a spine tingling transition into Truckin' you can hear on the tape the crowd reacting to the 'up to Buffalo' line, one of my few distinct, specific memories of that night. It was then that I knew I was in fact listening to a tape of that long ago first show. I was thrilled!
Of course the song sequence you mention- clearly the highlight of the show- was what was featured that night on the program. I was so happy I had chosen to roll tape as the program began- still have that cassette, still listen to it, a wonderful keepsake.

Do love that EYES from NC '91, easily one of the best of the 1990s versions, up there w/Branford at Nassau and 10/17/94---that's right: '94!
